History
Monterey Bay Automotive's roots came from quite a few generations. In the late 1930's Henry Tong moved to California from Texas. After serving in World War II, he started working in the automotive repair industry. He owned three different shops within Santa Cruz County during the 1960's. In the 1970's Henry established a mobile automotive repair buisness and his son Calvin Tong became his assistant. In 1982 Calvin opened his own shop called Tong's Automotive at the old Exxon station on Scotts Valley Drive. When the Exxon was replaced by Wendys Restaurant, Calvin moved the business to Janis Way in Scotts Valley, where he continued to operate Tong's Automotive.
Tongs Automotive stood tall in Scotts Valley for 23 years, being nominated "best auto repair shop in town" in 1995. In 2005 Calvin made the bold decision to move the shop to Santa Cruz and changed the name of the business to Monterey Bay Automotive.
Opening Monterey Bay Automotive in Santa Cruz in 2005. It was an exciting change of pace for the crew at Monterey Bay Automotive. Not established in Santa Cruz yet, our loyal customers followed us to downtown Santa Cruz and have kept us busy. Now established and providing Santa Cruz with our one of a kind shop, we seek those who value their vehicles and want the job done right at a reasonable price.
